For the first time since it joined the European Union, Romania holds the Presidency of the Council from January to June 2019. Perhaps it can be said that Romania’s Presidency is taking place during a complex European and international context that will require various actions. Romania is the last Presidency until the European Parliament elections in May and it is presiding during the UK’s departure from the EU. Both are important occurrences in Europe but there are other key policy issues, such as migration, internal security, EU defense capabilities, and cohesion that have become increasingly difficult policy topics among Member States to agree on. How will Romania’s presidency manage and promote the European agenda in a time where division among Member States may be present?

Please come join us for a discussion with Mr. Călin Stoica, the Political and Security Committee Representative at the Permanent Representation of Romania. Here you will have the opportunity to learn about the priorities of the Romanian presidency as well as other issues concerning the presidency of the Council.
