YPFP invites you to join our second YPFP's NATO series event on ‘Maritime Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance’ on Tuesday, 13 October at 19:00 CEST. The main topic of the discussion will be the maritime operational landscape and the challenges we face in obtaining domain awareness. We will also tackle the NATO’s Global Maritime Strategy and how the alliance is evolving to maritime developments.

Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) plays a critical role in ensuring maritime security providing situational awareness by detecting and mitigating threats or vulnerabilities at the earliest opportunity to decision-makers to respond proportionally. ISR uses a wide range of ground, air, sea or space-based assets including unmanned vehicles to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data.

The maritime sector is faced with complex challenges ranging from maritime terrorism to piracy. Over the past decades, we have seen a shift of naval strategies, where adversaries would pursue asymmetric naval warfare, including the use of the naval mine, which presents a significant threat to global shipping.

Our high-level speakers will evaluate how technologies impact operations and how these assets can become an effective cross-domain force multiplier.

Speakers:

Captain Ronald Blok, MSc, Royal Netherlands Navy, Section Head Maritime, Operations & Plans Division, NATO HQ

- Philippe Cornez, Former Director Belgian-Netherland Naval Minewarfare School and NATO Naval Mine Warfare Center of Excellence

Moderator:

Jeoffrey Houvenaeghel, Director of Security & Defence, Young Professionals in Foreign Policy Brussels

The event will be live-streamed on our YouTube and Facebook channels for YPFP members and non-members.
