YPFP Brussels in cooperation with QCEA welcome you to the event: “Peace Mediation and Climate Crisis” on  Tuesday 26 October at 19:00 CEST.

Mediation has historically been one of the most used peace-building and conflict prevention tools, alongside diplomacy and dialogue. Climate crisis affects peace-building since it reshapes the local context for building peace and is likely to amplify local grievances and marginalization. Mediators have often had to address conflicts over natural resources. However, with climate crisis provoking changes at a faster speed and scale, different has led to peace mediators to prioritize this factor.

The EU’s Peace Mediation Report and policy from December 2020 emphasize that peace mediation should be the primary response to emerging and ongoing conflicts, and outlines the main approaches and principles guiding EU mediation efforts. QCEA’s Peace Mediation Report 2020 principles mark the evolution in EU’s understanding of mediation; however, there are still challenges. To better prepare for and adequately respond to what are increasingly complex peace-building contexts, peace-building efforts must become more climate sensitive.

Join us to explore the importance of peace mediation considering Climate Crisis and how it affects the peace processes. Engage with us in discussion about the EU Peace Mediation report and the challenges and recommendations regarding Climate crisis.

The event is open to YPFP and QCEA members.
