YPFP Political Risk Series - Session One - "Russia's Invasion of Ukraine and its wider implications in the region"

To celebrate International Women's Day, YPFP London is proud to take part in Women's History Month, and kick off our 2022 Political Risk Series aiming to bring awareness of the political risk industry, and gives a voice to young professionals, who have excelled in this field, to speak about developments in their respective regions of interest. It also seeks to give our members a chance to learn more about the industry, meet those working within it and receive guidance on what they can expect if they are interested in pursuing political risk as a career pathway. 

We are proud to host our first discussion on Russia and Eastern Europe, focusing on the recent crisis in Ukraine and how the Political Risk Industry has been interpreting event. We are delighted to be joined by two analysts including: 

Anastasia Temerko - Mintz Group, Investigator

Ana is an investigator at the Mintz Group, a corporate investigations firm, and specialises on Russia and CIS casework. Previously, she worked as a Trainee Investigator at the Serious Fraud Office and Research Assistant at University College London. She holds a Master’s degree in Security Studies from University College London and bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Queen Mary University.

Sophie Nina Burna-Asefi - Risk Advisory Group, Research Associate

Sophia Nina Burna-Asefi is a research associate in the Risk Advisory Group's Russia, Eastern Europe and Eurasia practise.

Sophia specialises in Central Asia. Born in London and raised in Uzbekistan, Sophia is a fluent Uzbek speaker. She has traveled extensively across the region, spending extended periods of time in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Afghanistan. Sophia is also fluent in Dari and is skilled at sourcing and contextualising information in Russian. She primarily focuses on assignments across the oil and gas, mining, and infrastructure sectors. Prior to joining Risk Advisory, Sophia worked in diplomacy, security and international media where she specialised in political and economic analysis of industry trends in emerging markets. Sophia holds a MA degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Aberdeen, and an MA in Russian Studies from University College London.

We are also delighted that this will be our first event in-person, following the lowering of Covid-19 restrictions and we look forward to welcoming you back to our events to once again meet and network with fellow young professionals.
