As the concern for Eastern European security is capturing the headlines, many analysts are asking whether the Arctic region could be "re-discovered" as an area of increased tensions both under and above water.

If left unchecked, this could put to test the established multilateral governance arrangements in the Arctic. Even more so given that two regional powers, Finland and Sweden, are in the process of joining the NATO Alliance.

What will the future security dynamics and the role of the NATO Alliance look like in the Arctic regionWhat approach would best support the Alliance’s and its partners' security interests in the High North? And what could be done to avoid further military build-up or tensions?

These questions and more will be discussed during this event together with speakers:

  • Heidi Kjærnet, Permanent Delegation of Norway to NATO
  • LtCol Richard Showalter, NATO International Military Staff
  • Dr. Niklas Nováky, Wilfriend Martens Centre for European Studies

The event will be followed by a networking reception.
