NATO is unique: more than a military alliance, a community of democratic states sharing common political values and mechanisms of cooperation. Throughout the decades, it has adapted itself to new international demands and acted as the guardian of the transatlantic status quo. However, as growing diffuse challenges stem from multiple outside actors, over the last years the member states have been finding it more difficult than before to agree upon coordinated actions and to mobilize available resources.

Will NATO remain an Alliance capable of acting jointly in light of today’s international political environment, or will it fall short on the sidelines of the repositioning emerging powers? How broad will the geographical area of its motion be, and how much of its endurance will be contingent on the American leadership? Will its past achievements and 70 years of sustained operational capability guarantee its political future?

In order to explore these issues, YPFP invites you to a panel discussion with:

- Brigadier General Greg Smith, Chief Plans, SHAPE
Mr. James Appathurai, NATO's Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy
Mr. Bruno Lété, Senior Fellow for Security and Defence Policy, German Marshall Fund of the United States, Brussels Office
- Dr. Stella Adorf, Chief Historical Adviser, SHAPE
