Protracted armed conflicts. Long paths to resolution. Failed international mediation attempts. These scenarios are typical in conflicts that have resisted a peace settlement for several years, such as  Nagorno-Karabakh, Cyprus, Israel-Palestine, Kashmir or Sri Lanka, among others. Marked by recurrent violence and longevity, in some cases more than 50 years of crisis, these conflicts referred to as ‘intractable’ pose a constant threat to the peace and security of the state actors involved, encompassing regions and international system. Repeated failures to make meaningful progress in these cases result in deeper mistrust between the parties and hardens negotiating positions. Often, it is not only the conflict that becomes intractable, but also the mediation process itself.

YPFP Brussels invites you to a panel discussion with renowned experts in international mediation to  exchange views on what innovative approaches might work in breaking the impass, the most efficient strategies for mediators to help the parties involved regain trust and, overall, how to improve the mediation practices in intractable conflicts. Sign up now and join us in this interactive conversation to discuss mediation, diplomacy and resolution strategies with:
