YPFP London is delighted to be hosting this exciting discussion on Gender Equality in Foreign Policy with H.E. Ambassador Stefán Haukur Jóhannesson, Ambassador of Iceland to the UK. We invite all YPFP members to join us for this important discussion, chaired by our Director of Communications, Maria Milenova. During the course of the discussion this event will aim to address the following questions:

·        What do we mean by gender equality and why is it important in foreign policy?

·        How important is it to Iceland?

·        What other countries are trying to achieve gender equality in foreign policy?

·        What more can be done to encourage gender equality in foreign policy?

·        What are the major challenges to implementation? 

Ambassador Stefán Haukur Jóhannesson is an experienced diplomat and negotiator. His former positions include having served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, as Chief Negotiator in Iceland's accession talks with the European Union 2009-2013, as Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, as Ambassador to the EU, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein, as Chairman of the Working Group on Russia's accession to the WTO, and as Director of the External Trade Department and the Department of Administration at the Ministry. In 2014, he was team leader with the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine.
