YPFP invites you to join Almost Diplomatic’s Ryan Young, YPFP’s Cybersecurity & Technology Discussion Group Chair, Spandi Singh and Ángel Díaz of the Brennan Center for Justice for a discussion on big tech and their impact on free speech. Social media platforms have democratized access to information and have allowed individuals from around the world to communicate at scale. As these platforms have morphed into today's digital "public squares", these companies have assumed immense power and become gatekeepers of online speech. As a result, their policies largely define what content is permitted online and what is not, i.e. which conversations can happen online and which cannot. As harmful content such as disinformation and hate speech spread online, these companies must also strike an important balance between tackling these types of content and safeguarding free speech.
As per usual with Almost Diplomatic events, we will be having drinks while hosting this moderated discussion so grab a drink and join us!
Additionally, after the conclusion of the talk there will be an informal happy hour for all those who want to stay after!
Almost Diplomatic is a D.C. based podcast focusing on geopolitics and national security, delivering content in a facetious fashion. The host and participants consist of YPFP staff and members. You can listen to their content on Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud and Spotify!
