The first Security talks discussion group will bring our network of young professionals together for an open conversation on right wing extremism this month. Its aim is to bring together differing opinions in a space that allows our members to learn from one another.

The topic of right-wing extremism has been discussed a lot in the recent weeks. The storming of the US Capitol and the rise of far-right and extremist groups in Western Europe cause a great concern regarding the persistence of these groups.

At the 2019 Munich Security Conference, the international security policymakers ranked right-wing extremism as one of the most pertinent threats together with space security, climate security and emerging technologies. Further, the security threats that are posed by right-wing extremism will be a topic of discussion, as they continue to impact policymakers in and beyond the realm of security.

This first discussion group will explore questions such as:

  • How does right-wing extremism threaten the current security landscape in Europe, the United States and in a Transatlantic capacity?
  • What are some of the major challenges for policymakers to face the right-wing extremism?
  • What are some of the consequences of right-wing extremism on democracy?
  • How have the frequency and severity of right-wing movements gone beyond national and transnational politics?
