The ongoing war in Ukraine is putting the "friendship with no limits" between Russia and China to the test. Will this conflict strengthen or weaken their close partnership?

Despite China's claims of neutrality, its actions suggest a different story. China has maintained a close partnership with Russia, providing economic support and echoing Moscow's propaganda. However, recent developments, including the visit of China's President to Moscow, suggest a potential shift in China's stance towards the conflict. China has called for a diplomatic settlement, warned against the risk of nuclear escalation, and even offered to help rebuild Ukraine. This raises the question of whether China is positioning itself as a mediator in the conflict or engaging in a strategic effort to improve its image.

Join our event as we explore the evolving dynamics of the relationship between Russia and China. Will China step up its support for Russia, or will their partnership weaken? Will Russia become more dependent on China as the conflict drags on? How should the West respond to China's evolving position? We will delve into these questions and more, considering the potential implications for European and global security.

The event will be held online on 3 April at 19:00-20:00 with our guest Alicja Bachulska, Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR).
