YPFP Brussels would like to invite you to our next UN Series event on World Food Safety, combining speakers from the FAO and WHO.

The World Food Safety Day on 7 June aims to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development.

Our speakers, Dr. Markus Lipp and Dr. Rachelle El Khoury, will draw attention to these issues and discuss how they are addressed at the international level. You will have the chance to get exclusive insights into the impactful work of the FAO's food safety risk assessment and the WHO's INFOSAN work in supporting Member States in building their capacities to detect, respond, and manage food safety emergencies.

Dr. Markus Lipp, Senior Food Safety Officer, is leading the food safety work within the Food Systems and Food Safety Division at the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO). He coordinates the FAO’s work on providing chemical and microbiological food safety risk assessment and capacity development work to strengthen national capacities for food safety. Dr. Lipp previously worked in various public and private organizations focusing on topics related to food safety, biotechnology and standard setting, including the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP), the International Bottled Water Association, Monsanto, Unilever and the European Commission. He holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.

Dr. Rachelle El Khoury has been working at the World Health Organization (WHO) since 2020 as a Technical Officer within the Secretariat of the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN). In her role at INFOSAN she supports Member States in building their capacities to detect, respond, and manage food safety emergencies, to limit the spread of contaminated food from one country to another.

The event will take place via Zoom and the link will follow after registration. For more details please contact Lina Stahl, Programmes Officer.
